Barcelona in 20 cocktail bars and a little bit more

George Restrepo

I’ve been living in Barcelona for almost 8 years now, so I know perfectly every detail of this guide before reading it. But it always happens that even you know the streets, the places, the actors, a well-done guide will let you know new stories, other versions of the stories you knew or a new perspective. “Barcelona en 20 coctelerías” comes after its predecessor “Madrid en 20 tragos”. This Barcelona bar guide works as a good appetizer, and although the glass seems small, the after taste and joy is certainly for a long term.

I know this city really well and I’ve had the fortune of witness a great evolution on its mixology. I could observe, even living it myself, how the mixology became from absolutely classic to a different concept that could be a neoclassic mixology. “Madrid en 20 tragos” and “Barcelona en 20 coctelerías” are proposed as one book that comes in two volumes, like the Yin and Yang, good and evil, one black and the other white. It is not at all a good city and a bad city but a balance; they both need each other to have the full picture of the mixology in Spain. They both take the best of the classic and creative mixology to bring us a homogeneous and very interesting mixture of flavors, local proposals and drinks menus. However, it is no coincidence that 11 of the 20 cocktail bars proposals in this book have been opened in the last 7 years.

I know it was a hard work to choose the cocktail bars. There are 20 and so it was the idea of Jacobo Armero, editor of the book, along with Alberto Gómez Font and Jose Luis Recio, the writers. Well, I'm not the person to qualify if the 20 choices are correct. However, I allow myself to include, as an appendix and at my own risk, other places especially because its bartenders who are struggling every night for making the city more successful in liquid proposals:
